More than a business deal:

Innovating apparel production with 3D weaving

Reweaving the story of our clothes

At the heart of this partnership is a goal to transform apparel supply chains. Together with Decathlon we aim to scale our technology throughout the European region to facilitate local, automated and on-demand production of clothes.

Our Vega™ machines operate by manipulating thousands of yarns individually to create 3D textiles. By building in a cylindrical base structure, products can be completely or partially seamless, skipping many time-consuming and labor-intensive production stages. This process simplifies the manufacturing process, enabling the creation of garments directly from yarn in an automated, near-zero-waste process.

This new way of producing is what drew Decathlon to unspun. “The clothing industry has been faced with a waste problem for decades.” says Barbara Martin Coppola, Decathlon’s, CEO. Recycling garments when we no longer need them is difficult, and sometimes impossible, and there’s the issue of overstocking when demand doesn’t meet supply.

The speed at which our tech produces garments means that we can work toward a future where each purchase is made to order, significantly reducing overstock.

Our goal is to deploy this automated 3D weaving tech, around the EU region, in closer proximity to the point of sale. Thus unlocking affordable, local-for-local production of apparel goods. And reduce the textile industry’s impact on the planet.
